Thatched Roof Surveys

Our comprehensive thatched roof survey assesses a number of factors of your thatched roof, from the materials used, its current state of decay, any repairs or renovations needed and recommendations as to the most suitable way in which these renovations or repairs should be carried out. Thatched Roof Maintenance

A properly maintained thatch roof should last for decades but, unlike a normal tile or slate roof, it will need monitoring and repairing from time to time. The most common issues with thatched rooves are degradation to the ridge areas, as well as the eaves and flashing around chimneys where water can ingress and damage the thatch material. As Master Thatchers, we understand how to care for thatched rooves, and through our survey highlight areas of concern and implement repairs using materials local to Salisbury and the surrounding area to ensure the longevity of the repair and roof in general.

Replacement Thatched Roof

The process of re-thatching a roof involves removing all the laid thatch materials and striping the structure back to its timbers. Once stripped, we assess the internal structure of the roofing timbers and brickwork, including chimneys and flashing, and make any repairs or adjustments to conform with current building regulations, including the installation of fire barriers where needed. Once the underlying structure is sound, we thatch the roof with layers of thatching material source locally to Salisbury and the surrounding area, which enhances the longevity of the finished roof and finish with the ridge.
